AMY E. DOUGHERTY
Attorney, Member
Amy E. Dougherty has been with Bluegrass Elderlaw, PLLC since 2012. Amy focuses her practice on assisting older persons in qualifying for Medicaid long term care using Wills, Powers-of-Attorney, Advanced, Directives, and Trusts. She also advocates for clients before Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid agencies and defends against involuntary dismissal from long term care facilities.
Amy is well-known in the Elder Law field and is a frequent presenter at seminars.
MARY ELLIS PATTON
Attorney, Member
Mary Ellis Patton joined Bluegrass Elderlaw, PLLC as an associate in 2014; she joined the firm as a member in 2020. She is licensed to practice law in both Kentucky and Ohio. Mary enjoys getting to know her clients on a personal level and constructing customized plans to enable clients to achieve their financial, legal, and health care goals.
Mary has co-authored several legal treatises on Elder Law topics. She also has served as Chair of the KBA Elder Law Section.
KATHERINE E. FINNELL
Attorney, Member
Katie E. Finnell began working as an associate at Bluegrass Elderlaw, PLLC in January 2017 . She joined the firm as a member in 2020. Before her time at Bluegrass Elderlaw, she spent several years as a sole practitioner where she focused on estate planning, elder law, and business law.
Katie volunteers in community serving on non-profit boards and committees. She is also a frequent speaker on Elder Law and Estate Planning topics.

CAROLYN “COOP” MCCOWN
Medicaid Paralegal
Coop joined Bluegrass Elderlaw as a Medicaid Assistant in 2018, where she handles the Medicaid application process for our clients. Prior to joining the firm, she worked for Fayette County Public Schools and The American Red Cross. Before relocating to Lexington, KY in 2003, she resided in Washington, D.C. where she worked for several law firms.
Coop is originally from New York City. She enjoys reading and spending quality time with her husband.
ANNIE CAUDILL
Paralegal
Annie joined Bluegrass Elderlaw in 2019 as an administrative assistant. Annie is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2017 and has lived in Lexington for the past six years. Annie enjoys reading and spending time with her family and her dog.
GRACE JETER
Paralegal & Marketing Coordinator
Grace joined Bluegrass Elderlaw in 2021 as a legal assistant. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2020 with a B.A. in Economics, B.A. in French and Francophone Studies, and a certificate in Universal Design. Prior to joining the firm, she gained experience in multiple areas, including state government and marketing. In her free time, Grace enjoys spending time with her husband and cats.
ANGELA REHORN
Office Manager
Angela joined the Bluegrass Elderlaw team in 2021 as a friend and colleague. She has lived in Lexington most of her life, spending over 25 years in the arts community as an educator and encourager of artists young and old. She brings attention to day-to-day details and organizes the business side of the firm. She enjoys traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
TRACY MCINTOSH
Paralegal
Tracy joined Bluegrass Elderlaw in 2022 as a legal assistant. Originally from Lexington, she grew up in Somerset and graduated from UK. Her varied background includes media relations, publications, and teaching. In her free time, Tracy enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, reading, being a deacon at the church, and genealogy.
MICHAELA ESTES
Fiduciary Services Coordinator
Michaela joined the Bluegrass Elderlaw team in 2022 as a Fiduciary Services and Medicaid Legal Assistant. While born and raised in Mount Sterling, she moved to Florida in 2018 to pursue her interests, but ultimately missed the small-town life of Kentucky and moved back home in early 2022. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2015 with a focus in Painting and Printmaking. During her free time, Michaela loves painting, spending time with friends and family, and being the best cat mom to her three boys.
FRANKIE STIVERS
Receptionist
Frankie joined Bluegrass Elderlaw as the receptionist in May 2023. She currently handles scheduling and preparing new files for clients. Before joining Bluegrass Elderlaw, she worked for a law firm handling the Medicaid process for 13 years. Frankie enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and grandson.
GWYN SPROULL
Administrative Support Assistant
Gwyn joined the Bluegrass Elderlaw team in 2024. She grew up in Lexington and has a B.S. in Paralegal Studies. Prior to joining the firm, she worked in her church as a bereavement minister, assisting people through the funeral process. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and gardening.
